Having an extension done - considering a wetroom

Good afternoon all - any advice welcome
We are in the process of having an extension built.
We have now built up to DPC and I have measured the space available
We have provision for a downstairs toilet and shower but the space is only 2.8metres by 1 metre
It has been suggested that we move the wall back into the garage area but I don't particularly want to encroach upon this area and so I am considering having a wetroom installed instead.
The room has drainage and planning permission for a window - which I would like to retain
Does anyone know anything about wetrooms?
Would it be possible to fit one into the space?
Would the costs be significantly higher?
Is there anything else you would need to know before giving me an answer?
Thank you in anticipation
Jo

You can fit a shower and toilet in that space, no problem at all if you are able to have the door opening in the middle area of the 2.8m? Your shower will be a good size, goes to the left, toilet to the right and you have a space saving sink in the middle opposite your door. You can have a corner positioned toilet for a bit extra leg room, but actually there will be plenty in a room 2.8 metres long.
Yes, a wetroom will cost considerably more than a shower. If you want one because you want one, then have one but don't think that a wet room is your only option.
Ideal Standard have a space range. Their website used to have different possible layouts for small spaces.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks DG
Problem is that the door is at one end of the room - it's currently the back door - go through it and the long space is to the immediate right
Having said that I think there may b space for a trad shower room if we have a close coupled WC and a 900mm shower
So Shower at the far end. loo in the middle and basin facing the door
Or perhaps basin in the middle and loo facing the door so conversations can continue:rotfl:

I'd agree no problem with the size for what you want, you could get a one and half times walk in shower, space saving loo and even a corner sink, seen it just on 'Dont move, Improve' this afternoon, and they stole about 2.5m x 1m from a neighbouring bedroom and put exactly that in, except their door was in the middle, but it won't make much difference really.
I'm also in the process of having people in for quotes etc for an extension, got any advice as a whole? 6m x 4.5m extension, with a new kitchen and downstairs bedroom, with ensuite shower room. I'm hopefully going down the route of getting as much eco friendly things done as possible within the budget. Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -
The only advice on extensions I can give is to avoid timberframe - maybe it's just the company we're working (impressive pedigree but I think they're more used to new build than working with existing properties)
They changed the design and demolition requirements on 5th September (due on site Monday 22nd) and despite agreeing designs, us signing them off months ago.
They suddenly want us to demolish 3 sides of our house at first floor level (it's a semi!) and half the roof (completely) before they come on site
Planning permission in July, DPC, footings and foundations built and now they change the design!
Brilliant.
We've rejected their proposed changes and are trying to hold them to their agreed drawing supplied earlier in the summer.
We now have a building site on 3 sides of our house with no idea when they will come on site.
3 children under 5 and a property completely exposed to the main road.
If we cancel we're liable for the full charge
If you want to know the name of the company feel free to IM me

wow Jo, sorry to hear about all your problems, I'm hoping if the chap comes back to me with a decent price to be building my extension with SIPS panels, which look very enviro friendly and good for us in keeping heating costs down to a mimimum too, also planning a new boiler to go with it too, for the extension and the rest of the house too.
Going back to your problems, thats quite shocking to hear why they are changing the plans, do you think they've screwed up somewhere along the line and trying to rectify it, plus if plans have changed are building control etc aware of these proposed changes to the original plans that were approved, wouldn't like to see you getting hit in the pocket for changes. Thanks to all the competition posters.0
