Find all the meters. Take your own meter readings immediately on taking possession [and leaving]. Every time, whether rented or owned, without fail. Keep the readings with important paper work.
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?
  • Make sure you have to hand a box containing kettle tea coffee sugar milk etc - screwdrivers -curtains for first nigt if not already there - make up your bed you will want to fall straight into it at the end of your hectic day  make a list of everyone you need to inform of your move - have a few quid ready and treat yourself to fish and chips or other takeaway (not to late !) you don't want intergestion !

    Enjoy your new home :j

  • dont forget to ask for the alarm codes otherwise u will have to disarm it by cutting the powersupply or having to call out the alarm manufacturers emergency number for reset by engineer etc.

consider changing locks. get gas appliances checked.

install CO alarm if not already installed.

    get to know the neighbours.

print out a list of local electricians / plumbers / corgi gas checkers / joiners / locksmiths etc from www.upmystreet.com as the printed list might be useful if things go wrong before u get internet connection in new house

register with www.petrolprices.com to get free weekly updates on cheapest fuel prices in ur new home area

look up tesco / asda 24h branches etc around ur new home, same for pharmacy / dentist / GP / post office / police station

local take away menus might be useful first few days if u r busy moving and unpacking and dont want to cook etc

make sure u have the keys for all doors and windows and garage and outbuildings in the property and nhbc certificate and other paperwork and guarantees for boiler / insulation etc

dont forget to redirect all mail with banks / other services and also redirect mail via royal mail for all people living with you. also dont forget to do the same for car insurance / life insurance / car license / TV license / sky / telephone / broadband /mobile / national lottery account if u have one (wouldnt want to miss out on ur jackpot win would u!!) / NSANDI account if applicable etc

have fun in ur new home

For insurance I like the Endsleigh Tenant insurance. It insures your contents and there's an extra option to cover teh landlord's belongings (in case you damage them) and an emergency call out service in case your window is smashed or door smashed in, it would get a professional out right away to fix it rather than relying on being able to get hold of your landlord immediately.

  • are you wise to be moving in to a house on your own when you need to ask such basic questions ?

  • That's rather a harsh comment to make. Everyone has to start somewhere and it's not bad thing asking for advice rather than blindly going into it having no idea whatsoever and potentially making big mistakes.

Check previous owner hasn't left stuff behind that they should have taken.
The people we bought off moved out, and forgot their dog and rabbit
We had to call them back to pick them up. :rotfl:

Get an exercise book and write down each room's measurements for carpets/curtains,
Happy days, enjoy your new home xxx

    Take photos.
    Very handy to keep.

    Other set up mail redirect

Make list of everything and tick it off when it's done.

Kettle mugs, coffee sugar and milk go in the car with you. Unpack everything else after you've had a hot drink. :)

I'm sure you knew everything there is to know about house owning when you first moved in......The OP was asking for help and advice...you have offered neither.....remember that!
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
