black screen of death. whats gone wrong?

Options
my sisters apple doesnt seem to have much sign of life. there is power in the machine but nothing at all happens on the screen. no boot up screen, just an eery blackness.

tried a different monitor so its not that.

ive noticed that after leaving it on for about 5 minutes it seems to make a similar noise to a light aircraft taking off. dont think this happened before.

any ideas as to the problem?
What's it going to be, eh?

Sounds like something has come loose inside - open it up, and see if you can see anything obvious.
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.
  • im now feeling like eric zoolander in the 2001 sketch when he's trying to get the files out of the computer.

how the hell do u crack this baby open? its one of those massive aliminium G5 tank-like cases.
i've taken the 4 screws out of the bottom. definatley no other screws or any release bar/button that i can see.
searched google for instructions but theres nothing.
What's it going to be, eh?
  • i managed to get into this in the end. I pulled out the RAM and put it back in again. everything else seems to be connected as far as i can tell.
what piece of hardware would be the likely cause of this?
What's it going to be, eh?

Depending on the model, you could try resetting the PMU or resetting the SMU.
