Investments yesterday

For those who check these things out, how did your investments perform yesterday? I actually had one of my UK funds lose money (Standard Life smaller companies), unbelievable, it never seems to work the other way.

Mostly up but only enough to get back to where they were in the middle of last week really. Even the Blackrock UK Alpha fund went up. I took the opportunity to invest more on Thursday.

The Blackrock fund stated that they had no material short positions in the listed institutions, I pity the ones that did.

I have some in the CF Arch Cru fund which has behaved like cash. Thats actally been my best performer.. It didn't do much yesterday, but then doesn't do much any other day!

My worst performer has probably been Neptune Global Equity which has done very badly in recent months (its quite heavily in Russia). That went up about 7% yesterday.
  • Although they are maligned for their narrow range of funds, CIS had quite a good day yesterday: it seems that the banks / funds which have previously exercised a cautious / prudent attitude (Lloyds TSB / Co-operative) during the boom era are now the ones sitting pretty as other organisations collapse around them...

    Any other funds doing well?

Remember that there can be a days lag with many investment funds (particulary life and pension funds). You may not see the benefit of all the increases until close on Monday.

When you say a day do you just mean after say the 12:00 valuation point or do some have a full days time lag?

On HL it says up 7p etc. on the individual funds, surely that will be quite accurate?

Some have a full days lag. Mainly on wrapped funds due to the extra layer of wrapping (which is why switches use the next days price not that days price). For example, NU invesco perpetual income fund went down but the unwrapped UT went up. The decrease was Thursdays performance. Fridays will show on Monday.

Unit trusts/oeics will be up-to-date unless they are global funds. They will also see a lot of the changes a day later (wrapped or unwrapped) as markets may close after the UK closes.

I have just had a look at all Standard Life investments on HL and there is a disproportionate amount of red type, either they have some seriously duff fund managers or SL figures are a day behind as Dunstonh said.
