how much electric have we used?

Options
We moved into a new house in May.Earlier this month we changed to BG on their click online tarriff and the supply was taken over by them on the 16th of this month. Our opening reading was 07832 taken yesterday, and our reading today was 07849 which by my reakoning means we have used 17 units. But we have one of those stupid dual rate meters where we get cheaper electric at night (i think the house had storage heaters at some point) so how on earth to I work out what those 17 units have cost? I only mean roughly. BG told me the rates were:

DAY RATE:

13.356p per kwh for first 125 units
10.533 per kwh for the rest

NIGHT RATE:

4.368p per kwh

So. Based on the 1st tier rate, have I used approx £2.28 + VAT making £2.68

Sorry but my calculations may be way off. Can anyone advise?

CC limits £26000

Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

Hi spinning, you need two opening readings and two closing so as to calculate day and night use.
And if you don't use storage heaters or can't make night use something like 30% of total, then you need to come off Economy 7. BG may have the meter changed or add the two together.
Can't help you with the tiers (tears) rate.
    Rates normally include VAT.

Note that VAT on domestic fuel is only 5% not the usual 17.5%

Edit: Also I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to calculate. Presumably the likely cost of you bill at the end of a quarter (assuming you use exactly the same amount of electricity every day).
If so, as well as the advice given by Ken68 above, be aware that the initial 125 units at tier 1 is presumably also over a quarter i.e. ca. 91 days, meaning only about 1.4 units per day are charged at the higher tier 1 rate, the remainder at tier 2. I know it's less than 3p per unit difference but will make a considerable difference based on the usage over the 91 days.
