Help editing web page

hi all

I've been asked by a friend to edit his bussiness website that he had
got built for him a few years back as he cant get in touch with the
author.
I have full ftp access but when i look at his files via ftp i cant see
the files he has to edit.
He has a news page that he wanted updated as it was years out of
date, the news page is just www.******.com/news but when I go
to ftp no news folder and any sub folders named news have only
basic files with footrers/headers etc and no txt to delete

yes i have very little web experience and would appreciate the help

I'm certainly no expert, but by browing to the www.****.com/news, the website will load the default file - usually index.htm or index.html (although these will be plain text files that you can edit in Notepad).

It's possible to use scripting to create the HTML file on the fly, so that might be one reason a .htm or .html file isn't present in the news folder...

Not sure if that helps, but maybe someone with more experience will have some suggestions...
