two year old bill from n power
Options
Feb 2006 was when i switched my gas and some greedy salesman decided although i was not interested he would switch my electric. When the DD went out i rang them and N power to get it put back. After much fuss and (under various acc no's ) DD paid I was back with N power. As i got overlapping bills and a shocker of a bill from N power, i dumped them both and went with a other company recommended by search site. In July 2006 and after lots of sorting i paid N Power £400 they said i still owed so clearing the account a lovely manager sorted it all out and said i should not have been allowed to leave. Then in Oct I got a bill from N Power which the same manager said was a mistake a big £800 for three months electric mistake. The company i had chosen was not very good and i went to Atlantic whom i am still with. Aug this year two years later i got a bill from N power for £800. I was promised that they will look in to it, they had never been in touch with me since Oct 2006. They admit this but they do not know why!! Then i get a letter stating your complaint has been resolved? How? I rang, yes they had decided i did owe them the money. According to the records i never left them until November 2006 when i went to Scottish Power if i did not pay court action was pending. I have never been with Scottish power I rang Scottish power and they confirmed this. Rang Energy watch and they put me on to a manager at N Power who is looking in to it. I now have no clear records nothing to prove all paid. I can not even remember the company names. This is a total nightmare. HELP what do i do if they just say i owe it.

IF, and from the story its probably a kinda big if, the supplier is deemed "at fault" and has billed you for energy used over one year ago they cannot ask you to pay this money.
This is under ERA guidelines agreed by all major suppliers.
http://www.energywatch.org.uk/your_questions/index.asp
is a brief example of it.
If they have billed you previously and then this same bill has been sent to you as a reprint then your in trouble. If the bill they sent previous has been cancelled and this is a new bill first printed recently for usage over twelve months ago then you shouldn't have to pay.
The REALLY important thing is that right away you register it under the complaints procedure as a formal complaint that has no resolution. This will allow you to spin it out for twelve weeks until it automatically goes to OFGEM. Suppliers, even if they are in the right, have to pay 325 pounds every time this happens, they are fully aware of this and will bend over backwards to stop it happening.
Get them to send you confirmation of the complaint and a copy of the complaints procedure.0 -
Thanks Paul. The bill is a copy of one they said was cancelled in October 2006. They only have to look at the fact they have not wrote to me since to know they cancelled it when i proved paid units to other company. I was told by a probably to forthcoming customer service girl that if the manager although knew was a invalid bill did not close off the account properly and solved the issue without correct paperwork. When the new system computer came in lots of people have received these mad bills. Thanks for the info on new guidelines.0

The central industry register (ECOES) lists all the suppliers & dates that relate to a supply point. If you provide me with your 13 digit meter point admin number (bottom row of the S number on your bill) I can confirm the dates and suppliers for you. Note the Energywatch ceases to exist at the end of the month and the new organisation will only look at potential disconnections.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

debbyjg, I have checked for you and the situation with your MPAN is as follows; 01/01/97 to 14/11/06 the supplier was NPower (YELG). On 08/05/06 EDF (LOND) tried to take supply but NPower objected and the change of supplier did not occur. On 25/05/06 EDF (LOND) tried again and again the change of supplier was objected to. Finally on 15/11/06 Scottish and Southern (SOUT) took over as supplier. Hope this clarifies who your supplier is and has been.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
