Hi
We have just bought an Advent 9517 laptop from Currys - refurbed, but it said in the ad that it had an integrated webcam. In the picture it looked like that was in the usual (I think) place - at the top of the screen in the middle.
But it's now arrived and there's not one there! Yet it definitely says it is a 9517.
Does anyone else have one of these or can shed any light??
thanks
Shona

Someone has suggested pressing Fn+F10 to switch the webcam onAlways looking for a bargain and to help0

Yes they are usually at the top as that is the best and most convenient place for a camera showing a facial view.
Have you gone into the settings and ensured it is turned on?
Have you made sure that the model number you have matches what is on the laptop itself?
Have you checked online that the model laptop you have actually has a webcam as standard and not an added extra?
Bill
edit. just had a quick look around and found someone requesting how to turn it off!! Possibly if Fn+F10 doesn't work you could possibly try the reverse of this....
Considering you are on a Windows based PC. Follow the instructions below.
1. Press the keys "Windows" + "R" together. (Windows as in the Flag thing)
2. In the dialogue box type "devmgmt.msc"
3. If on Vista, accept the privileges thing. Then navigate to "Imaging Devices" on one of the drop down boxes.
4. Right click on the Camera and select "Disable"
If you need to use it again, follow the steps again and instead there should be an "Enable" command.0 -
There is usually a small round window where camera is at top of screen about 5mm in width on most laptop
Hope you got a driver

Thanks both - I'll give that all a try. But surely, there would need to be a wee camera hole somewhere!? There is on our Macbook. Or am I being daft?.0

But yes, the label on it states that it is a 9517, and everywhere I look it mentions integrated webcam, so don't think it's an extra. And it was in the ad..0 -
Have you tried using msn to see if you can set camera on it. I dont use mse these days so I am a little rusty0

Hmm Curry's now telling me it was an error and there isn't a camera as suspected. They gave me 10% back - so £261 (-quidco) for core 2 duo, 2gb, 160 hard drive, 1.5ghz - not too bad I guess....0

Oh well you got a result0
