Replacing a fridge seal (merged threads)

Options
Hi there

I'm not used to posting on here, so you might have to be patient!

Has anyone here got any experience of successfully changing a door seal (gasket) on a fridge?

A couple of months ago milk leaked all over our fridge, including all into the fridge seal, which seems to have been specifically designed to be difficult to clean.

After several failed attempts to clean the fridge, it now smells horrible. So I rang Candy's spares people and got them to send me a new seal. Bu how to fit it? There are no screws to dis-assemble the door, and whilst it's easy to pull the seal out I'm not sure how easy it will be to get the new one on.

As an aside, the new seal is different - the rubbish design has been improved.

I've since heard stories that whilst it is possible to get spare parts it can be difficult, even impossible, to actually fit some of them.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Jamer

  • Hi,

Open the fridge door and lift up the edge of seal you should see a lot of screws going around the edge of the plastic door molding, remove them all and the inside of the door will come off and then the seal. Some people find it easier to take the door off and do it on a table. Its dead easy once you have a quick look.

We thought of changing the seal on Grandmas Whirlpool fridge - asked the local repair guy & even HE said, oh oh - that'll be fun!!

So it's still as it was & looks like it'll be a new fridge, before a seal!!

My daughter's boyfriend's mum asked us about this the other day. Now I can tell her how to do it although I suspect my OH will end up doing it for her.
  • I have read some of the useful messages on here about changing the seal on a fridge - but unfortuately I cannot see any screws on the Hotpoint iced diamond fridge that we have. It is really good condition and I am reluctant to bin it - can anyone help? I have had a good look under the torn seal just seems to be a fixed strip of plastic holding it in.
  • Yep this is the thread I read - but unfortunately I cannot find any screws on my fridge even following this advice -is there anyone out there can add anything else?
  • Luddite,

We have a tall Whirlpool fridge and matching freezer. When we had the man out to replace the handle (2nd time under extended warranty) on the fridge i asked him about the seal on the freezer and how easy it was to do. He told me you cant replace the seal as it moulded into the door and we would have to have a new door and the cost would be about £150. crazy i thought, why not make them lilke they used to so they can be replaced.
