Transportation

Ok so unlike many students I am not moving into halls when term begins. I cant drive and don't live to far from the city centre (Manchester - about 8 miles out) so i'm using public transport.

There are lots of different offers out there all by different companies and thought I would start this thread for those who may be in a similar situation and know of any deals or offers that would be good for communting students.

Anyhow after much research i have decided to opt for a greater manchester county card offered by the system one ticket 'scheme'.
Its £808 (anual) and can get you unlimited travel on any bus or train within the greater manchester area. However the downside is there is not student discount and the above is the full adult fair. I decided not to opt for the railcard as it can't be used before 10am due to peak hours and am in at 9am most days. And for a rail pass it's around £700, with the county option if i miss a train i can just as eaisly hop on a bus!

If you were only using the bus you could get the unirider for £155 for the year, covers all stagecoach and magic buses in the greater manchester area.
