foreign currency bought via debit card

I bought some foreign currency by debit card online on 17 September. I thought I got a good deal from Travelex ( no commission and a good rate ). I am to pick up the currency at Newcastle airport next month. However, on checking my Alliance and Leicester bank statement I find that I have been charged 2% for the online transaction. So be aware that these hidden charges may wipe out any prospective savings.

You have to watch out because the currency transaction may be considered as a cash advance.
I have a Nationwide card, and I use that to take out money abroad: no charges, and the rates are pretty good too. In fact, it's one of Martin's recommendations behind the Abbey Zero card for spending abroad.0
