N-POWER have got a sceme ive just joined called spreading the warmth...they add £250 a year to your gas and elecrtic £125 to each [...]
So if you N-POWER get signing up!

But as it is only available to you if you pay the standard tariff it is worthless for most consumers. How much extra do they charge? (Here's a clue - it's more than £250 for the majority of users.) (From £320 to £500 and more for the figures I've checked.)

Can we ask Martin, Fran, et alia to do a special feature on the real & hidden costs of assisted tariffs?

A bump because of my attempt to sign up with an energy watchdog [EnergyWatch]....interesting times! Below is what I got back when registering with them yesterday:
Thank you for contacting energywatch, however as from 30th September 2008, we will be closed and are therefore unable to process your email in the time remaining.

A new organisation, Consumer Direct will take over energywatch's role in providing independent help and advice to energy consumers from 1st October.

Consumer Direct will be able to help you with the following:
" Queries/problems relating to your gas and/or electricity bills
" Finding the cheapest supplier for your gas and electricity
" Information about discounted tariffs from your supplier
    " Consumer information leaflets

From 1st October, you can contact Consumer Direct by calling 08454 04 05 06 or visiting their website at https://www.consumerdirect.org.uk.

If you need help or advice from energywatch before 30th September, you can call our helpline on 08459 06 07 08

If you would like to register for Free Services/the Priority Services Register please contact your supplier who will be happy to register you onto their relevant scheme.

If you would like information on energy grants and schemes that are available to help save you energy and money, you should contact your local Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre on freephone 0800 512 012 or online at https://www.est.org.uk/myhome.

If you would like further information on your Pension and Benefits entitlement, including the Winter Fuel Payment you should contact one of the following organisations.
" If you are under 60 years of age, your local Job Centre Plus. This can be found by visiting https://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk.
" If you are over 60 years of age, your local Pension Service Office. This can be done by visiting https://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk or by calling 0845 60 60 265

    Best regards
