Any help please? installing a new printer?

Options
hi all,

i am not sure if anyone will be able to help but worth a shot. my printer is bust so i have managed to obtain a new one from freecyle but it has no software disks or cables. luckly the cables from my old printer seem to work a treat.

my question is how do i get the printer working with the pc without the disk and is it possible? or will i have to take it to a pc repair shop?

the printer is epson stylus photo R300.. (it looks fantastic)

any help would be fantastic!! thanks jenny

  • An excellent printer I have one myself. You can download the printer driver and software from the Epson website here

Also, sometimes the software/computer can be temperamental to install, if you get any errors - I found the best way was to disconnect from internet, disable anti virus and firewall - then install the software.

  • does the downloaded file have a setup.exe to run or
does the found new hardware wizard run when you plug the printer in? If so as you go through the wizard hit the "Have Disk" or browse to the driver file.

have you unzipped the d/l drivers into a folder on your harddrive?

Every thing you need is here ... http://esupport.epson-europe.com/ProductHome.aspx?lng=en-GB&data=ua0advrLVvWfk5KHyg3ksYJn5vvPaAP2
Download everything in the first 2 headers [Manuals & Documentation ... and ... Drivers and software]
They come compressed so you will need winrar/izarc/7-zip or similar to decompress to a folder on your desktop/documents or wherever.
Lots of epson R series can print onto printable CD discs and have a tray which slots in under the printhead and you use 'Epson PrintCD' [I think it's in the software download] to manage the image printing process ... I think the R300 has a flap at the front that needs to be in the closed position for normal printing .... read all the documentation in the above link - it will tell you all you need to know.
Also if the printer has ben lying unused for a while it probably won't print properly and the nozzle check/Cleaning utility is a bit pants, so get a couple of sets of cheap compatibles [ about £5 a set of ebay] and download SSC utility from here http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml [scroll to bottom of page and click - I agree with all above statements and want to download software (v4.30) .
There are some minor issues with the utility but I have never had any problems with it [start the program - minimise to tray - right click for options ... deep clean/reset etc, etc].
Excellent printer if you can get it to work properly.

    hope it helps
