Help please! Late deal package hol veterans!

Hi everybody I'm looking for some advice please...

I've spent the past week searching for a package holiday week in the sun as my partner and I have some time off work in 2 weeks time. I saw a deal mid-week that was absolutely perfect for what we're looking for but, for various reasons, didn't book it there and then. Now the only similar holiday i can find is an extra £100 each.

Basically what I want to know is... do new deals spring up on a daily basis (I'm mostly using the teletext website)? Is something just as good likely to appear in the next few days? Or should I pick the best of what's available now as with only 2 weeks to go the choice will get more and more limited??

Thanks in advance

I don't think anyone can answer your question. Do some research, find out what the normal cost of a holiday is vs. the last minute price (if this will affect your decision). Do not limit yourself to mostly one website - most, if not all of the main TO's websites show last minute availability. Decide what you can afford and when you see a price that you are happy to pay then book it and don't check the price again.

What I would consider to be 'good offers' are continuing to appear on a daily basis but these are only what would fit my criteria in terms of destination, budget and dates.

Quite often, he who hesitates is lost, sometimes a TO will advertise a holiday at an amazing price then as soon as bookings come in the price is raised - I have watched a holiday increase in price by £200pp in one hour.

If you are looking at departing within a couple of weeks it may perhaps be wise to try and find something you want asap, but then again, as I have said previously, no-one can really predict this with any accuracy. A few of the amazing bargains that I have seen were for departures within 2 or 3 days of booking but there are obviously no guarantees that you may see something you fancy or can afford or indeed that anything will be available that close to your intended dates.

There is another recent thread on here on a similar subject where someone mentions 'yield management' and goes on to say that TO's will not necessarily sell a holiday at any price just to put bums on seats.

Unfortunately there just aren't the plethora of cheap deals there were until about 2 years ago  . These days you need to keep an eye on the market a couple of months in advance and then take a punt on the best price. If you want to book a few months in advance Travelzoo is a good option, otherwise lastminute.com for late deals. Always search in conjunction with tripadvisor so there are no nasty surprises when you get there!
