hi looking for some help.
I'll start with my setup. I have a Linksys router in my living room which connects to a laptop via ethernet cable aswell as another laptop via wireless. These work fine. I then connect it to another PC which is next door in the study and do that by ethernet cable.
This has worked for years without any problems but today i am unable to connect to my PC (next door) it shows on the router and the ethernet port number is lit up so that means it can see the PC. But it will not connect to the internet at all.
So it this a faulty router or my PC is stopping it somehow?
I asume if the cable was damaged/broken then the number port would not light up?
Any help would be great

Take the laptop that currently works on Ethernet in the living room, power it off, plug it into the cable from the PC in the study, power it on and see if it works. If so the problem's the PC.0

The first thing I would do is try a different port on the router- to see if the port is faulty.
You could try different network cables- the ones you use for your laptop.
Check to see if your PC is getting at IP address from the router (Start - run - cmd [enter] then ipconfig [enter]0 -
do this in the following steps
make sure PC is switched off
then take the power cable out of the router for about a minute or two.
plug the power back in
turn the pc back on and hopefully it should pick up whats called a new ip address from the router and that should sort it.
Sometimes with these types of things you have to do it in a sequence or you can get problems.
It may be worth checking to see if your network card on the PC is installed correctly0
