Car insurance NCB questions

I've been a named driver on my Dad's policy for about 18 months, does anyone know if the companies that let you build up NCB (direct line etc) as a named driver also take into account the claims-free driving with another company if you take out insurance with them?
Thanks in advance

  • Not as a named driver, no.
  • I only got my 1st car 2 years ago & had to start with no claims (I had been driving for 12 years at this point & had always been a named driver). However when I came to my 1st renewal a year ago I was given 4 years no claims bonus (which I swiftly protected), this year I now have 5 years protected no claims bonus after just 2 years of having my own insurance. :T

Anyway perhaps the short answer should have been that you may be able to build up your no claims bonus quicker than you expected.
