Homebuy scheme. Run by incompetents?

We registered for the Homebuy scheme way back in April. Received the approval letter and later was approved for a property. We have in our possession the equity mortgage contract for that. After getting the survey done we decided to back out of that sale due to issues with the survey.

We called the Homebuy office and was told we could buy a similar house for the same money. We had to resubmit our property details, which we did. After much chasing from us we got a verbal confirmation the house has been accepted and was told we could continue with the purchase.

I have now spent another £540 on a survey and paid some money to the solicitor. I have my formal mortgage offer but have been waiting for an updated mortgage contract from Homebuy.

Called them today and they said no money has been allocated to us. How can that be? I have a mortgage contract from them with my name on it for £29k, it's just for the old property. They had said the money had been transferred to the new property, yet now say it hasn't.

Is the Homebuy scheme run by completely incompetent people? Every time I call them they seem to have problems giving simple answers.

Which one are you dealing with? No one within Catalyst seemed to know what they were doing at all when I was going through it...

I would advise you to do as I have, and forget about these stupid schemes.. I don't think they realise how much grief they cause people. If you put a price on grief and stress, as well as your own wasted time, then these schemes are well not worth it. It is unfortunate, because I am sure there should be a way to make some kind of scheme work which actually benefitted the people it was supposed to be helping.

It's a stupid scheme, if the house isn't affordable without a stupid scheme then it's not worthwhile. If it is affordable, then why use the scheme.
