If shares are held in a nominee company, would they be safe if the company went under?

    Which company?

If the company whose shares you own goes under then you have lost your money.

If you mean the nominee company - well that shopuldn't be doing anything other than being a nominee company so it shouldn't be going under.

If you mean the company which owns the nominee company, then your shares should be OK because the nominee company structure should be ringfencing them from the liabilities of the company which owns the nominee company.
