Best Video Editor?

Hi,

I'm trying to use Windows Movie Maker (on Vista) to edit a video I'm making for a community project. Movie Maker keeps crashing (whenever I add a video to the timeline it stops responding).

I usually use Linux, so I've tried avidemux, but I'd like to add effects, titles and especially subtitles. I've also tried LiVES but its extremely slow.

I've been trying AVS, which seems quite good, except I'll have to pay for it.

Does anybody have any other ideas?

Thanks,

Jonny

Pity you aren't using a Mac, you'd not have this trouble, iDVD and many other free titles are excellent, plus Final Cut / Pro is one of the top systems you can use.

However, I'd recommend Premier for Windows, it's very good and professional.

Have you got enough RAM? Need at least 2Gb for Vista.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

4 would be better for Vista with video editing
  • Thanks to all of you. I'm now using a 30 day trial of Adobe Premiere - it seems quite good. I have 2GB RAM - but its slightly sluggish.

I'm not really sure what's wrong with Movie Maker - I used it for a similar project a couple of months ago and it was fine. Now whatever I do with it causes "(Not Responding)".

Also, I take back what I said about LiVES. It seems quite good, but it might take some getting used to.

    Thanks again,

    Jonny
  • If you don't want to spend too much for your next project Adobe Premiere Elements is good.

If Windows Movie Maker crashed, your computer will explode with Premier ;)
Shame- it's great software, what the BBC uses.

In moviemaker go to settings and try disabling some plugins (like the video and audio ones) than try again.

windows movie maker doesnt like large files - if your last project was smaller than the current one - this might be why .
Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig

I could easily edit a clip 2 hours along, I think it's rather many files than big ones, as everyy time you edit it's having to pick up all the video clips.
