• A UK financial company caring about its customers??!! Whatever next? Free apple pie and custard when you go shoe shopping? ;)

Seriously, well done Tesco Credit Card! About time someone started to show concern for customers (perhaps they were scared about Martin mentioning them on TV or in his blog otherwise).

Every little (bit of fear) helps... :)

Now that is the way a financial institution OUGHT to behave! A little integrity from the rest of them would go a long way:D

• The FAQs on Mint's website also cover this - I noticed it this morning and was very impressed.

Tesco is not being as generous as it may seem. Tesco says that if you booked a package deal then you should claim through ATOL; ATOL says that it will NOT accept claims if you paid with a credit card - see page 1, penultimate paragraph of: ... obtained from: In a nutshell, Tesco says claim from ATOL; ATOL says claim from Tesco.

Credit card companies are jointly and severally liable, i.e. it is for the consumer to choose who to claim from. The credit card company cannot insist that you pursue another body first.

I have filed my claim with Tesco. I have yet to have a reply.

Well, Tesco's comment may be consumer friendly, and it might be nice to think of Tesco as a cuddly, helpful, unselfish and altruistic corporation...

On the other hand, perhaps it is just that Tesco's credit card is actually provided by Royal Bank of Scotland and perhaps the cost of such repayments is bourne by them and not Tesco, so perhaps not quite so altuistic as we might think.

Then again, even if RBoS covers the costs, they didn't have to be so open about consumer rights in their email....
• I am also a Tesco credit card holder and still I am no nearer to getting my money refunded after paying for XL flights using my card. I have now sent 3 letters to Tesco with all the relevent information they have requested. I think they deliberately make things difficult when trying to make a claim so that their customers give up. I will keep fighting this until I get my money back and if it drags on any longer then I will close my account a move elsewhwere.

Hi, I paid a deposit of £250 for some property on my halifax credit card, the deal was, that the estate agent would pay me 2% of the total cost, which never happened. I took them to court and won, but they still didin't pay, I then sent the baliffs in, still no joy. As a last resort I used section 75 with my credit card, they offered me £1808, but as I had gone through so much stress for over a year and while pregnant (I went into premature labour) I declined the first offer, within a week, the Halifax generously offered me £6650. I was in shock but accepted it immediately.
