I had to give up work at the end of last year to look after my disabled father. Now 9 months down the line I realise that I will be able to work part time as my father tends to need the extra care early morning and at night. I have found a job working from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm each day which is only 5 minutes from the house. I start this job next week.
Can anyone tell me if I am entitled to any grants when I come off income support and carers allowance (I also have a 14 year old son and I am a single parent). I was told I will be entitled to a £250 one off payment but I have heard of people being paid £40 each week for a year when they start work. Does anyone know what this is and is there anything else I am entitled to. I am quite happy with the payment of £250 as this will help to keep me going for the first month when I get no benefits and need to wait a month for my first pay.
Thank you.

You won't get the £40.00 In Work Credit as you have to have been in receipt of IS for 52 weeks.
As you are working over 16 hours, you will also be entitled to WTC and CTC and as you are a lone parent, there is an extra element included.0 -
you also maybe entitled to keep your benefits for a month aswell as your wages, this is what I was told at jobcentre recently.its worth going to speak to your advisor.0

the DWP one says in reciept of benefits for 13 weeks
the jobcentre plus one says 52 weeks so best to ask about it.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
