Arranging a Football Tournament
I want to arrange a football tournament in the local community sometime next summer.
Ive never done anything like this before so im pretty nervous etc
Has anyone had experience with these kind of events?
I have my own community website for my town and could advertise heavily on that. What i want to do is have a 5 a side knockout tournament to raise money for 2 chosen charities. The teams will consist of various companies etc so for example Tesco could play against Sainsburys or Police Vs Firefighters. People will pay £2 to play in the tournament and hopefully i can persuade my local football team to use their pitch after the season has finished next summer for a day. And spectators will pay £5 for the whole day. Im also planning on phoning local businesses and asking for them for sponsorships or thing for auctions for example a Helicopter ride around Glossop and then people could bid on it with the proceeds going to charity. Maybe i could get a local business such as tesco to put in £2 for every goal scored in the tournament. Id also call and email the local radio station and newspapers to see if they wanted to come cover the event. Thats basically it for ideas though and i need this to be an all day kind of thing to raise as much for charity as possible. Has anything extra i could add? Any ideas would be welcome....
My chosen charity would be Cancer Research UK as both my girlfriend and I have both lost close grandparents to this disease.
Regards
Mike

my sons have attended many tournements . is it going to be a family day or are you hoping to get under 8'S etc. All the ones i attend do a program and parking for £2 and then charge a team fee of about £20 for up to 8 players. I would ring round and check what the football clubs near you are doing as clubs near us have already set dates and you may clash. let us know exactly what you have planned and i can try and help .0

Hi Cookie
Im intending it to be a family day with the kind of main event being the football tournament. I need some more activity ideas to fill through the day...with an auction being one of them.
There is only 1 local team and ill be doing it in between the football season summer break anyway. The town is relatively small so the ground doesnt have a car park, people use the road alongside but they can get around 2000 people into the ground on match days.
I was intending to aim it at all ages tbh but something for the kids would definatly bring in the people.
Im a graphic designer by trade so i can do all the program and advertising myself so that saves time and money

You'll need insurance, but you probably realised that.
On the cost front I coach a kids football team and we enter a few tournaments. they usually cost us £30/£40 for the team. I enter them in ones where there are going to be plenty of games for them and things to keep them occupied when they are not playing. Spectators, which are parents, do not pay to enter although most charge a car parking/programme fee.
It may be worth having a word with the local branch of Cancer Research to see what help they can give you.
Finally, under FA Rules 11-a-side football is not allowed to be played in June, so as you want to play on your local clubs pitch be aware that you will not be able to play 11-a-side in June. It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
yes i knew about the insurance but i didnt know about the FA rules. Thanks for that.

If you are playing 5 aside games on an eleven aside pitch then you should have plenty of space for other activities such as food stalls, BBQ, bouncy castle, raffle, etc
Speak to the local community groups, PTFA's, churches etc. about helping out with either personnel to run the stalls or equipment you could borrow - they often have stuff stored away for similar events they run themselves.0 -
Bouncy castle, didnt think of that.
I will be using an 11 a side pitch but i thought i could seperate it into different sections because i have 4 group stages which if i used 1 pitch would take a long time to pay all the gamesI need a cig...
