symantec/norton downloaded trojan to my computer

Hi I wonder if anyone else has experieced this. I had norton security installed when I bought this laptop a year ago, it was approaching renewal of subscription and as I had McAfee with 3 licensees installed in my desk top computer , I decided to delete the norton and download McAfee from my online account, everything seemed to go as planned until I tried to use the laptop this morning and after a few minutes online ,the screen froze completely. I started up in safe mode and ran a scan to discover a trojan downloaded by symantec (norton), I was angry at this and don't see how this can ever get you to buy their product again. Is this a regular thing as I have only ever used norton and McAfee. cheers shrewdal

How did you "delete Norton"? You should have used the proper removal tool provided by Symantic. here

  • HI espresso, Thanks for your reply. I did not know about this "removal tool" and uninstalled from programmes. With the quarantine of this trojan , does that mean the removal of norton has been a success? thanks shrewdal

Personally I wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole.

We had it on two computers a while back, on one it noticed a website with a Trojan and then let it through anyway, on the other it just downloaded it.

Avast and Zonealarm do the job better (IMHO) and for free.
