Help with Credit Card Shuffling Needed

After posting on a previous thread about my debts on my credit cards I was advised to do a Credit Card shuffle to help me.  I have hit a rather large stumbling block at the first hurdle though.  The situation was as follows.

Barclaycard Balance £2300 Limit £2300
Virgin Balance £1900 Limit £4200
Natwest Balance £2974 Limit £7300
Capital One Balance £300 Limit £1000

What I have already done is to transfer 2300 from barclaycard to virgin.  So currently my barclaycard balance is 0.  I then planned to transfer £2070 (cos u can only transfer 90% of your available credit) from virgin back onto barclaycard but my balance transfer got refused.  So basically the barclaycard is no use to me now.  Anyone got any ideas on how to shufle the remaining three around?

So basically the situation now is as follows:
Barclaycard balance £0 Limit £2300 (refused a b/t)
Virgin balance £4200 Limit £4200
Natwest Balance £2974 Limit £7300
Capital One Balance £300 Limit £1000

  • Did they say why the balance transfer was refused? I have never had problems doing this. Have you missed payments on Barclaycard?
  • I have missed 2 payments in the last few months on my barclaycard, so i'm assuming that is why the balance transfer has been refused. Reading other posts on this forum I see this isn't the first time barclaycard have refused a balance transfer.

Hmm. Here's how I see it: If they're refusing to let you order a balance transfer, it makes a nonsense of the idea that your credit limit is supposed to be £2300. What is your credit limit? Is it £2300, or is it zero?

But perhaps it's best not to ask them that. I'd suggest you try again, but keep trying progressively smaller amounts until they finally say "yes". The worst they will say is no. And even if you only get part of the promotional deal you were hoping for, that's better than none at all.
    :p
  • Or you could try "ok you won't let me transfer that much - how much will you let me transfer?"  Only trouble is they might come in with a really low figure then.  Anyone else tried this approach?

I think it's either they will let you BT or not; I don't think negotiating on the amount will work. Some months ago I asked BC if I could do a BT and the chap said his system said no. This was despite my perfectly clean record with them over 10 years and a £12k limit. Tried a few months later with no problem. God knows what criteria they use for their decision.
