Immobiliser proof...why ???

Just recently purchased a 1996 VW Golf GTI
While speaking with my insurance company ( prudential ) to change my car details on my policy they said they require proof of an immobiliser fitted, i explained that it was a private purchase and it is a factory fitted system anyway, they stated that they still require proof, even though on every motoring website and even VW themselves state that it was fitted as standard from 1994 onward.
How do i go about getting proof for them, and should i really need to as its them being stupid and not checking a manufacturers history.

I think the insurance company will want proof that not only is an immobiliser fitted, but that it is working correctly. For a fee, I think most car alarm installation companies will examine and test the installation on your car, and write a letter on headed notepaper confirming the model type fitted (e.g. is it Thatcham approved?), and that all is in order. This should satisfy the insurance company.People are more important than things0

Maybe find a car hi fi shop and get them to write on a piece of paper "car inspected and it is fitted with factory immonbiliser" then send that to insurance company. I did a similar thing when they demanded a "engineer's report" on a suspension kit I'd fitted.Happy chappy0

Or just tell them where to go and take your business elsewhere! I understand this may not be ideal, especially if you are in the middle of the year of your insurance, but they should be able to see for themselves that it is factory fitted, as you have said.
Perhaps do as Tomstickland says and also put in a strongly worded letter informing them of your displeasure.
Grrrr, I hate insurance companies haha!0 -
This may just be a terminology thing.
If an insurers website asks if you have an immobiliser and the car has a factory fitted one I think you need to answer "No".
There is usually small print to the effect of "abve and beyond the manufacturers standard security".
By answering YES they may now think you have a secondary aftermarket immobiliser fitted.
As you did it on the phone you may have got a member of staff that didn't explain the question they were asking you correctly.
They usually do ask if alarm/immobiler/tracker questions when people change car.

Do they want proof now or in the event of a claim? Every ins co I've ever spoken to say that in the event of a claim being made they want proof that an immobiliser was fitted. Maybe they meant then and not now
