unable to access the internet......

My home laptop was fine yesterday until about 8pm when I was no longer able to access the internet but could still send and receive emails?

I turned everything off and then back on but still the same.

What could be causing this?

I am using IE and Virgin 2mb

I get a page saying that the web page is unavailable (no matter what site i try) giving me the usual check that you have not mistyped the page and that the computers connections are ok.

Do you use ZoneAlarm and have you recently run Windows Update, and not run it since July?

hmm dont run zone alarm but have Kasparsky.

Will try removing the update KB951748 and see if that helps

It won't - it's very important security update, but conflicts with older versions of ZoneAlarm.

Check with Virgin first. I've had the same problem a couple of times. Dial 150 from your phone and follow the options for free help.

Have just done a restore back to 7pm yesterday (1 hour before it went off)
I remember and Kaspersky update sometime last night.

Think that I have a crap copy of Kaspersky as I have had nothing but trouble with it.

Laptop is:
Intel 1.3ghz
1gb ram
xp sp3
