Urgent advice needed!!!!!

I am a single parent, working 16hrs, claiming child and working tax credits, living in a rented house via an association (sp?!) I started college this week doing a full time access to higher education course so I can train to be a teacher

I have to move a lesson and its thrown everything out of place, I can't fit in my min 16hrs per week to qualify for my tax credits!!! It will be a struggle to study f/t and work and care for my daughter (5) so I had to hand my notice in today, next Friday is my last day...

Where do I go from here? what am I entitled to??? have tried the entitledto calculator and it didn't really help much

I'm pretty sure you can get Income Support due to the age of your daughter.

Whether you can get help with childcare depends on your course and the area you live in I think.

You'll lose the Working Tax Credits and it's Childcare element though. Is there no way you can work 16 hours? You'd probably be much better off.

Thanks for the reply.. I don't want to claim IS becasue of the CSA, I have an agreement with her dad and am more than happy with it. I did some research last night and I think i will get some CTC and EMA hopefully

I have tried to work out if I can still do the 16hrs but I just can't get it all into my week. It's a full time course I'm doing as it is

  • I think you will qualify for ALG (adult learning grant) instead of ema dependent on your age, but works out to be the same in payment. Can you not find work from home like Avon or something similar aswell as some hours in your job. You can combined these to make up your 16 hours so you can qualify for WTC.
