Gas & electric Confusion!! Any advice welcomed
Options
Hi,
This may sound daft to most of you but could you please help with my gas & leccy? I am BG for my gas, standard tariff and pay £40 dd per month. I have an electric token meter with Npower which I have been try to get rid of for ages but they say I'm in debt with them, but its them who have failed to note I had my meter changed twice an dthey have no record of it!! So, I am going through energy watch with them at the mo, it's what to do when I've got free from them. I want to change my gas now but it's all a bit confusing. I wanted a capped tariff but they all say different things and I've just go so lost. I live on my own in a 2 bed terrace, I only have a gas fire & baxi heater for the whole house but worried if I get a capped tariff I'll end up paying more than I would at the mo, or if not my bills will go sky high!! I know everyone's in the same boat but they don't make it easy for you do they?? I can't afford to pay huge bills with only 1 wage and a mortgage etc to pay.
Any offers of advise or your experiences would be more than welcomed.
thanks

Yeh get rid of BG a.s.a.pHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0

You may find it difficult to cap just your gas as most suppliers will only cap dual fuel or electricity only if the property has no gas. You will find it difficult to find a capped or fixed product for a token meter. You should try to get your token meter removed once your issues are sorted and take advantage of a dual fuel deal try to cap rather than fix. If prices come down a capped deal may come down as well (Not likely but you never know)0

I would have recommended BG's fixed price 2011 but its finished now so no can do.
Firstly, are you on any benefits? If so I would go for BG's Essentials tariff, it makes a big difference for prepayment customers. Failing that you need to really change dependent on usage.
The current fixed rates for electric are not a good deal and I wouldn't recommend them singly, for duel fuel (although you'll need to switch your prepayment to a credit meter) E.On's fixed price 2010 is the best deal on the market.
If you want to stay on PP for electric then ebico are a good company to go with, easy tariff's that dont penalise you and pretty good customer service. Gas wise I would probably go with. Your a bit stuck with just fixing your gas although BG will do it until 2012, trouble with this si you will not get direct debit discount any more and you have to pay a 7.5% premium. That to you will equate to a 12 pound increase in your direct debit.
In all honesty just ring up BG and tell them you get disability living alowance. they wont require proof and you'll save a packet.0 -
