Here is a very good document on short selling, I suggest you all read it...

That sound like a load of bull to me.
There is nothing in there which to me supports the validity of share lending and those graphs show that the fall in price of HBOS show that share lending caused it.
The explanitions given to seem to add up and appear largly rubbish.
But then what would expect from the chief exec of the share lending association?
"Well without share lending we would not have made a fortune out of the HBOS share price drop"? - I don't think so somehow!! :rotfl:
It's all garbage. Stopping share lending would cause no problems whatsoever, if people needed the shares they could jolly well buy them like everyone else has too.
Who knows, the price might actualy go up!!
His mumbo jumbo does not fool me - what a plonker!!

Esbo - You still have yet to fully explain how you have come to your conclusion on 'Short Selling' - Bad experience, poor advice or hands on knowledge?
Do you care to comment on the drop in B&B (Bradford & Bingley) despite no short selling going on then yesterday?0 -

You can see from the HBOS graph, it is like an X, fallinng share price and rising stock lending.
Obviously the B&B shares dropped in value due to the break-down in talks in the USA about giving $700 billion to some of the most imcompetent, corrupt and overpaid people in the history of the planet. Obviously the stocks were marked down before start of trading so the vultures missed out.0 -

Correlation is not the same as causation.isla wrote:Those who argue that short sellers can drive a share price below its fair value
need to explain why other investors do not take that buying opportunity.
This is the fundamental question that needs to be answered by detractors of short selling...0 -
Blah blah blah, if you don't like the markets don't play in them, really simple. That sound like a load of bull to me.
