As I said, if you are dishonest then yes I agree with you, but buying Chattels as part of a house purchase is not illegal or dishonest. They go on the contract along with the house price and the money is passed through the solicitors. Theres no way the seller can mess with you and as long as your not taking the mickey with the cost of the items the tax man can't do anything about it either.

Either dogooders or moral cruseders or just not understanding.

If you can save £1750 then do it, ignore the numptys on here claiming your fiddling the tax man as there are legals way to do it as has been said already many times. Of you feel guilty then just remember all the doogooders will be paying the tax so it s not like the taxman doesn't get anything.

Why is it the internet, especailly forums seem to bring out these moral crusaders. Very strange.

I have a better idea to avoid the moral and social stigma , offer the !!!! £135K for it, that's all it is worth if you are lucky.
  • i have just rang the estate agent and offered the £175,000, waiting for the phone call back, fingers crossed its accepted and i have escaped the dreaded stamp duty.......

I've been on this board for a while and one thing that comes up every now and again is that a solicitor will not pay ball
if the property purchase price is above the stamp duty band, the buyer wants to make an offer at the stamp duty band but then wants to offer an amount for chattels that equals or is very near the original market price.

It's all to do with how you phrase questions.

The OP first post included the words:
.....or try and sort something out with the old guy whereas i give him £174,950 through solicitors and hand him the cash for the remainder £6,000 therefore avoiding the dreaded stamp duty....not sure what he'll say though...

This is tax evasion not tax avoidance. Tax evasion is illegal.

If they hadn't posted this they would have got more useful answers.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
