Hello everyone.I was wondering if anyone can point me towards a good processor and motherboard comparison site.At the moment I am running an AMD 4200 cpu on a Foxconn motherboard. They have served me well for quite a while but I feel an upgrade moment building. As it seems a minefield with duo core quad core and any future cores in the pipeline I thought I would get as much info between now and Christmas when I hope to upgrade,Any help would be much appreciated.

Problem is that there are so many products to choose from! I've used this site, among many others:

From what I've read recently, it seems that the best value for money in processors at the moment are the high-performance dual-cores.
You seem to pay quite a premium for quad-cores, which many applications still can't exploit fully. So unless you run lots of processes at the same time or know that your main app is truly multi-threaded, quad core may well result in only one core taking most of the load.0 -
Hello and many thanks for your reply.I have had a look at the site and comparing what I use the computer for which is Internet,MS Office MS Flight Sim. occasional photo printing would something like this do the job.

Of those apps, MS flight sim seems to be the most CPU-hungry, and it's graphics IIRC aren't exactly leading edge, so I doubt that anything you'll be doing will tax that processor.
One point to note about the AMD 64 X2 6000+ is it's quite power-hungry. For your use you might prefer the energy-efficient version, which confusingly runs at a slightly higher colck speed but is called the 64 X2 6000. If your PC is on for long periods of time, that processor consumes around 30% less power.
Sorry, don't know anything about that mobo.0 -
Hi fwor. Many thanks for your reply I will look into the processor as you suggested. As for the mobo I have had a Foxconn mobo for a long time and had no problems with it so maybe I can find one to go with the AMD 6000.:beer:0
