High processor usage problem

Hi,

Today I've had a problem with the processor running at upto 100% most of time. It also happened some time last week but seemed to sort itself out.
This time the probem persists, any help would be much appriciated !

I have noted that on both occassions it has been after the windows updates. I have tried re-booting, disc clean up, Ccleaner, Malwarebytes and Avast virus scan as a precaution.

I have a Dell Vostro 1700 running Vista Business.
2.2 core2duo, 2gb ram and a NVidia 256 video card.

Thanks in advance.......

Try using a rootkit finder.....most antivirus software will not find these.....is your harddrive light always going aswell???

you can get free ones (AVG did a free one but can't see it any more) however i know avira AV free edition has a rootkit checker

also look at what processers are happening ctrl+alt+del...start task manager...processes

that should show you what if any is making your cpu work (unless your running something then it should say something like...system idle process at 90+ percent)
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right

and the free procexp (process explorer) will do the same and show the hidden ones too
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
