Mold/Spores in bathroom - removal and sorting?

Not being the DIY genius - just had a fella round to quote for a bit of tiling in the bathroom, and skimming the walls [moved about 6 months ago and its needed doing]
First thing he says is...."You'll wanna get that mould sorted mate, nasty that".
Ive had a quick look on the net, and read about just how nasty it can be, but I am not clear on the best ways to get rid of it, and keep shut of it.
Its in the top corner of the bathroom above the toilet and a small bit below the toilet at the back, next to where the pipe runs out the wall. Nothing too black, just greayish and not really thick mould.
How can this be caused, and how can i get shut?
Do i need to get someone in to sort this?
Thanks
ML

you really have to work out what has caused the mould in the first place!!
obvious thing to say i know, but mould is usally caused by water damage so i would try to locate the source of the problem rather than cover it up!!
you say there is mould by the pipe going out the wall from the toilet (toilet overflow pipe), just check the overflow in the toilet is'nt leaking/has been leaking, adjust toilet ballvalve if required
the next patch is near the ceiling/corner of wall? is this an outside wall? if it is, it might be worth checking the guttering/roof tiles above the patch of damp, a common problem i encounter when getting called out to leaks, is to find that either a roof tile has come loose, or more often the gutters are full of leaves/rubbish etc and overflow during heavy rain and can leak back into the property causing mould etc to appear overtime!
try having a look at some these points yourself (if you feel confident!) rather paying some one to come and clear your gutters as it is only a 30min job!!
if you dont have a ladder but feel you can have a go yourself, you can hire ladders etc from most hire places, and most will deliver/collect for free!
PLEASE NOTE, MAKE SURE WHEN USING LADDERS, THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE A PERSON TO FOOT THE LADDER TO HOLD IT STEADY WHILE WORKING AT HIEGHTS!! IF YOU DON'T FEEL CONFIDENT AT GOING UP A LADDER, THEN DON'T ATTEMPT TOO!! GET SOME ONE IN IF NOT SURE!!0 -
yOu can get mould also for cold water pipes causing codensation, in fcat we have the problem now which remidns me to do something about it, black mold on the water tank that flushes the toliet and the water pipes that feed it often get back patches on. Not sure what to do about the water tank but I have to lag the pipes.
We sued to get thsi probelm in hallway again by water pipe butlagged that with cheap pipe insulator and that did the trick.0 -
Does your bathroom suffer from a lot of condensation? Our bathroom window tends to get bits of mould starting in the joints if I don't keep the window open.0

To stop water forming on toilet cystern first flush and dont let it refill. Then inside smear wax or vasaline all round the cystern. This should act as a insulator. Walls and celling mould, if it is'nt a leak causing it try painting the effected area with a outside smooth masonery emulsion paint. Keep room warm and my be fit an extractor fan to stop condensation. If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.0
