    Before Barings and BCCI it was accepted that the BoE would step in to bail out failed banks.

    Don't forget that certain savings accounts only give their best paying rates to a certain amount of money i.e the first £50k. If you are going to put the money away, you might as well get as much free ;) money back as possible. Also, make sure all the banks you are investing in are regulated by the FSA, therefore you can have total piece of mind when you put the money away. Goodluck :)
