Halifax Student Account 2008

I opened a Halifax Student Account a couple weeks ago because they had the biggest overdraft of £3000 and wanted to get it done before going to uni. With the takeover of Halifax by Lloyds TSB confirmed, does this mean that I will lose the products (Overdraft, In-credit interest etc) on the Halifax Student account and will it be absorbed into a Lloyds TSB student account which has a lower overdraft and lower in credit interest?

Just a bit of help, so I can decide, if I need to find another account at another bank or keep the Halifax account and put money in it!

Cheers

  • Your Halifax account will be fine. There probably won't be any changes made to the two banks for a while. You will probably have found that you did not get offered the maximum overdraft limit, I doubt anyone does in their first year.

Just to say you are very unlikely to get the £3k overdraft straight away or at all. Halifax are quite strict with their free OD
  • I also just got a studetn account from HBOS saying that the oversraft limit is £3000, although I am only allowed £500 at the moment, it will be the same for you. The accounts you currently have with HBOS will not change. The terms and conditions I think stand until 2010
  • I'm with the TSB already, I got £1000 to start me off which I can increase at a later date if I want to. When I tried to open a Halifax one they offered me £0 so I said yup why would I take that?
