Hi people.
I'm on the hunt for a new desktop PC.
Have a budget of £500 and am looking for a spec which covers the whole family using it.
For example:
- wife would like to be able to download music
- ds would like it to be reasonable for games
- web browsing
Do not need a printer / scanner with it as we already have one.
All help would be greatly appreciated, as I have been helped by many of you before and found your advice to be sound:beer:

Anything would do for what you want except for gaming. The gaming requirement bumps the spec and the price up. Do you needa monitor with it or do you have one you can use?
If you don't need a monitor the second one int hsi list would do the job

If you need a monitor how about the one reduced to £529 in this list?

Whatever you get make sure it has a proper dedicated graphics card, not onboard graphics. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
£500 will satisfy requirement 1) and 3) but 2) if ds likes to play games like Crysis.
Are you looking to build or buy?Buy for value not cost.
Feb Grocery = £55.87 / 800 -
No one really plays Crysis anyway, it's too boring

Looking to buy as I am not that technically savvy; simply put, couldn't tell my ars* from my elbow!!
DS is only 8 1/2, so don't need too much in the way of graphics.0 -
Ah that means you can probably get anything

If you can get the £529, it's a pretty good deal in my opinion (as a demi-geek)
If anyone is wondering
Q6600
3gb ram
500gb hd
20" TFT Screen (they are pretty good)
HD3450
Vista Home PremiumBuy for value not cost.

How does this compare?

seems to be the same as that but without the video card, monitor and 1gb less memory0 -

It's good, especially for that price. You can always add extra RAM (easy and inexpensive) and bung in a new graphics card, if you need them, at a later date.0 -
Thanks for advice so far.
Is there any major difference between AMD and Intel processors as I've seen a couple of systems with AMD in?0 -

To a seriously anoraky techie, yes, and they'll duke it out for ages over which one's better.
To the average user, they're much of a muchness.0 -
I know dell right now has some great deals, or you can even take a look at CompUSA, they usually have quite the selection at good prices.0
