Hiya,
I am due a new baby in february and due to me changing jobs at the beginning of my pregnancy I am not entitled to SMA, so I have to claim MA.
No problem for me as its NI and tax free so better off!
But ... I get Childcare and Working tax credits atm as I am employed.
Once I go on maternity leave and as my payments will be coming from the government (I know the work gets it paid back to them) will I still be entitled to Childcare and Working tax credits for the nine month maternity period?
Or will I be declared as unemployed even though my job is kept open for me.
I think I know the answer but with my last child I got SMA via my wages, it all just confuses my pregnant brain.
When I call up working tax credits to declare my new child can I still at the end of the 08 / 09 tax year deduct £100 from my P60 for every week on maternity leave during that period. Or does that not apply as I am getting MA and not SMA.
Will the government give me a P60 do show how much MA is paid in that tax year?
sorry for all the questions!!
Thanks

As long as your job is open for you to return to and you do actually return to work, you are still classed as working for tax credit purposes.
This means you still qualify for WTC & childcare help from tax credits.
You would not deduct the £100 p/w from your P60 figure for every week on maternity as this rule is for deducting SMP.
The MA as far as I know is not included on your P60 as part of the "Total For Year" figure.0 -
fantastic , so everything else other than the £100 deduction will be okay.
will I have to include any MA payments in with my P60 , or is that seperate?0
