Hi we have lived in this house (new build) for 12 months.. for the first few they never billed us for electric, the gas was fine..we have been paying £55 per month since around June to pay off some of the debt and our current usage. when ringing last week df was told that we were up to date as he was asking about changing supplier..we left it as we have done a comparison and BG is the cheapest for us..Anyway! got a bill yesterday for £125 and not impressed, they say they have generated it as df put my name on the bill? how can we have been fine 2 weeks ago and now have a bill?

On our bill from may to spet which is the period they have given us our bill totals as £123.42 but we have 2 payment on there from july and aug for over £100..the girl didnt seem very good at explaining and im wary to ring again as keep getting high bills from ringing them and getting nowhere..
I can also not work out the bill at all could anyone help work them out....any ideas please? Thanks

If you post the details on your bill, someone here will explain what it means.

The problem with looking at your balance on line or on the telephone is that your payments are credited to your account monthly BUT you debits(i.e. the bills) are debited quarterly.

E.G. suppose on 19th June I get a bill showing I am £50 in debit.

I have a DD of £100 paid on 1st of the month.

So on 1st July I will be showing as £50 in credit, 1st Aug as £150 in credit, 1st Sep £250 in credit.

So If I check today(18 Sep) I will be £250 in credit. However tomorrow I could have a quarterly bill for, say, £350 debited and I will be £100 in debit.

Not sure ill ever understand it tbh! basically the way i work it out is that they know what our reading is now and it tallys with the one they have so how they can suddenly generate a bill due to an added name? why don't they write to you and tell you you are not paying enough so this doesn't happen? they have reduced our payments which is awful really as we know that we will use the same so will be even more behind..below is bill..

Looking at this it appears that you started this period with a deficit of £103.60, however you then paid this off by making a payment (date unknown). You then used £123.42 of electricity in this period but made 2 payments totalling £103.60, so the final balance of this bill should be£123.42 minus £106.60, which I make £16.82.

Hmm we moved in in the sept previously and never paid anything until that april..we did pay however higher amounts to cover the debt which is what the £50 ones are..(should have been around £30)..we had another letter saying that the balance was the £124 or whatever it was but they have used some credit from our gas account and the total was now £118 so paid it yesterday..

I am really lost with it as they have the dates as of when we moved in and now so surely they can give me a whole lump sum of what we should have paid buy now? How can i get a breakdown of everything i have paid since we moved in..any ideas..thanks
