Towbars?
I have a 2008 S-Max with reversing sensors and need to get aatowbar fitted. I'm not sure why but I had assumed this would be a couple of hundred quid.
You could have knocked me over when Ford quoted £600.
Obviously I trawled the independents but still the price is still nearly £500.
The problem is that I need a detachable bar (westfalia or bosal etc) and 13 pin electrics for a modern caravan. It appears that to maintain the cars warranty I need a vehicle specific wiring kit which then needs to be recognised by the vehicles CANbus circuitry. Only Ford can do the software module at a cost of £88.
That means that my current quotes of around £410 plus vat to supply and fit the bar and electrics by a towbar specialist will end up nearer £550 once Ford have plugged in the laptop.
Does anyone know of a cheaper deal?
Please no back-street garage options

As you need it to be detachable and want to tow a caravan you'll have to fork out the £500 I imagine. Another option which you've already ruled out is to buy the correct towbar (ebay etc) and go to a backstreet/cheaper garage and pay them to fit it. £500 isn't really much considering the total cost of the car anyway.0
