Advice on areas to move to

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on areas to look at to move to.
I have my house in South Manchester (Cheadle) up for sale, and want to move to somewhere a bit more rural (and cheaper hopefully!). I'd like a nice area, semi-rural, village-type place with a couple of shops, a pub and maybe a chippy
I'd initially want to rent (around £700 per month) but eventually would buy something. I'd be looking to pay up to a maximum of £200,000.
IDEALLY I'd like to be within a 30 minutes drive of the Trafford Centre (not because I can't be without the Trafford Centre or anything
, just because my parents live in that area). Oh and my husband works in Swinton (M27) so it would need to be a realistic commute for him - maybe up 45 minutes drive.
I don't know the other side of Manchester at all, so haven't a clue where to start looking. I'm hoping some of you will be able to suggest some areas to looks at! I really appreciate any pointers you can give.

Not entirely sure about the driving time to those places, but it isn't that far.
I'm from just outside of Rochdale, in between places called Littleborough and Smithy Bridge. They are on the penines near Yorkshire and are like villages, lovely cottages with a mix of large detached houses on estates.
It is 20mins by train straight to central Manchester and one hour to Leeds. It is 20/25mins drive to central Manchester and literally a few minutes from the motorway at Milnrow.0 -
Oh and house prices...
£200,000 would pick you up a nice detached 3/4 bedroom house in a cul de sac

Thanks Sazzy. They sound lovely, just what I'm after. I'll make sure to check them out ... and if one of them has a chippy then I'm sold

They both have a chippy! Littleborough is bigger than Smithy Bridge. There is also Hollingworth Lake in between the two, which is nice for long walks and you're right on the pennines. The canal also runs through both, so it's a nice place to go for walks etc...
Depending on what type of house you're looking for, there are a lot of old terraces/cottages along the main roads in each area, with larger semis and detached houses on estates off the main roads.0 -
Oh and Littleborough has a lot of pubs
Smithybridge has two. 0 -
This is the centre of Littleborough village...

Another recommendation from me!
I recently bought my house on the other side of Rochdale in a place called Shawclough. It is similar to Smithybridge with a village centre with nice cottages and then large (some HUGE!) houses off on nice estates.
You'll find lots of semis and detached houses at decent prices there. It's also next to a conservation area and a nature reserve called Healey Dell, which is beautiful. It is on the way up towards Rossendale area, but again only 20/25mins drives from Manchester.0 -

Thanks again! I'll add it to my list ... it sounds lovely.
Husband and I are into mountain biking and walking, so areas like this would be ideal.0 -
Oh yes it would be ideal for you around the pennines then! You may also want to look at places just outside of Oldham as well, Saddleworth and Delph come to mind, although I don't really know the areas properly.0
