What Secyrity To Use

I'm uninstalling McAfee that was already pre installed and is now due to run out and wonder what I should use instead.I already have a firewall and security on the router.(Netgear)Do I need to install more than one programme.I only had Zonealarm on my desktop and had no problems but I'm sure it made things run very slowly.Any advice.Thanks.

There is an article on securing your PC for free on the site.
You currently have NO security.
You need to install Antivirus and Antispyware programmes.
AVG 8 Free combines both functions but there are loads more.

Consider an anti-virus program such as either Avast, or AntiVir, or AVG. All have free versions. If your router has a firewall built in, then that puts you behind a hardware firewall, I would (and do) just go with windows own firewall.
You may want to consider an on demand scanner such as SuperAntiSpyware or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to cover the spyware side.
If you haven't already switched to an alternative web browser, consider Firefox or Opera. Also consider taking 10 minutes to learn what a sandbox is and use one.

I agree with all the above, and just want to add - if you decide to use Firefox, install the Adblock and Noscript add-ons (free, just go to Tools/Add-ons in Firefox)
