Hi,
I've just purchased a new NEC 411i from the o2 website, and i have inserted my o2 sim card from my old phone that i would like to keep.

But when i switch the phone on it keeps saying 'INVALID IMSI' on the main screen.
Ive never had this problem before, could anyone tell me what it means, and if i can resolve it so i can use my old o2 sim card?

Thanx in advance!

Apologies if I get this wrong, but the IMSI represents the phone number on the network. A sort of combination of the phone number and sim card.

You should phone O2 customer services, but first check again that the sim works in your old phone

couple of things spring to mind - is the sim definitely snug in the new phone - can apparently cause IMSI errors (and probably others ;)) if it isn't.

also, is the old sim compatible? i only ask out of ignorance about this i-mode stuff that 02 are launching, iirc the NEC is one of those handsets - maybe your old sim isn't compatible with i-mode? maybe you just need to get someone at 02 to activate it like they used to have to so you could use MMS?

oh and i wouldn't hold my breath on the email CS front (through personal experience) - does saynoto0870.com not have a geographical number you can call 02 on?

I also had the same problem with an NEC 411i from the o2 website, luckily I got some free o2 sim cards and used one of these and the phone works perfectly now. I will probably call in our local o2 shop when I get a chance and ask them what the poblem is, If you get an answer from o2 can you let us know what they said . Thanks.
