There are thousands of teenage girls across the country who would love to see horses on their banknotes;)

Slightly more seriously, I doubt you'll see either brand disappear in the next couple years. Until they are all migrated on to one computer system they'll have to have separate places to service ex-Halifax and ex-LTSB accounts.
This will be a huge IT project worth millions, HBOS operate a VB client front end with Microsoft SQL server and a dash of ORACLE thrown in for good measure, not sure what LLTSB use for their platform but the migration of data will involve a complete new schema and client front end too.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • I think it is inevitable that there will be job losses back office wise within the enlarged group. Not until next year but I think it is an obvious evolution of the group. I doubt BoS will disappear as they have a large presence in Scotland. Halifax, I think the jury is out on Howard. I doubt it will disappear, but I wonder whether they will scale down some branches or do what Barclays did with Woolwich(albeit on a much slower timescale).
As I said, am not sure about 40,000 job losses but I think it will happen.

I work for Royal Bank of Scotland Group which has no connection with Halifax Bank of Scotland or LloydTSB
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

Spoke to HBOS today as my idiot work colleague told me that Halifax were not letting people take cash from their accounts so I panic ................. it is such a shame that the last old-Scottish clearing bank is finally swallowed by a shark like LTSB

What with all that - and supporting Newcastle - it's all a bit too much! ;)

Wouldn't fret - I've been with Halifax for at least 30 years and I still rate their current accounts / online service as much as ever (albeit a bit quicker to FP would help) - the 'merger' with BOS simply passed me by. I still Login to accounts entitled 'Halifax' and walk into a Branch (as infrequently as possible) with the same logo above it. So I doubt the merger with Lloyds is going to ripple the waters too much. At least in the medium term.

I'm sure Kevin will be back ? (Or you can have Howard if HBOS can spare him and Mr Wise has worked out how to do transfers!)
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

My own view is that the 'Bank of Scotland' brand is worth too much in Scotland to lose. I would think BOS would certainly continue as an established Scottish bank and that it will continue to print it's own bank notes. The Lloyds TSB name isn't very well established north of the border. I would further speculate that Lloyds TSB will absorb the Halifax name in E&W and re-brand as just 'Lloyds Bank'.
