in fairness personal wealth is only collapsing if you have a savings/pensions in the stock market.

frankly I think the biggest tragedy of the last 10 years is the absolutely wasted opportunity, in the most benign economic environment very little was spent on stuff that would improve the country like sorting the transport and energy independence and instead wasted it on pay rises and mad public sector building programs.

Legend has it that King Arthur sleeps in a cave just around the corner, a few minutes drive from my house, in Alderley Edge. I'll try and be there to brief him and his knights on the situation when he wakes, and send them after the BTL-ers.

You an Alan Garner fan by any chance? Could be a new novel here somewhere!
  • For anyone around that remebers the 70's can recall the parallels. That recession started with massive oil price rises and no matter how powerful you think our government is they cannot deal with international events like this. If anything we are more dependant on international events now than then.

That is a horrible image. You've put me off my cuppa!

The worst crisis for 50, maybe 100 years. 10,000s of people out of work in the space of 48 hours. Banking system collapsing, personal wealth collapsing, London's core wealth engine spluttering to a halt.

And where is Crash Gordon? Nowhere! What a total irrelevance the fool has shown himself to be as Britain comes apart at the seams.

I 100% believe our Queen must step in to bring an end to this hopeless farce of a government and initiate an election. Waiting 18 months will guarantee a disorderly breakdown in society which the police won't be able to control and the army is overseas.

Reminds me of a film.... Memoirs of an Invisible Man.

I think even Chevy Chase would make a better job of it that Clown

I think we are on our way back to the 70s, but I don't find that entirely depressing. I'm sure that, besides medical advances and the growth of the Internet, there must have been other 'good' developments since then, but, for the life of me, I can't think what they are!

Ahh, I had to google the name and it was...

..the author of The Weirdstone of Brisingamen

Yes, we read it at school and I loved that story as a kid. Might be tempted to read it again as I've forgotten most of it, except for how it brought about the wilds of the Alderley Edge landscape to life.
