Just transferred from Birmingham Midshires

Just transferred a large sum of money from Birmingham Midshires. Have only left the 34k – not taking any risks. Other accounts are in the opening process, to minimise further risk. This is my hard earned money I cannot afford to fund losers carless with my money. I lost around 50K on shares with the recent bubble burst.

Just my thoughts.

Looks like you were a bit carless not doing this long ago, considering how much money you have!

    Just my two penn'orth.

Its a little fair amount, but your right I seem to catch onto these things pretty late or maybe I think... na it couldn't happen.
  • Why now? lloyds is taking HBOS over, your money was safe. You lost some more interest, that's all

On paper?...or did you sell at the wrong time/too late?

Are you investing above your risk tolerance?

Maybe so, don't really care, few tens of pounds vs. thousands - no contest.

I'll also have “some” piece of mind / sleep better with it split across multiple accounts, yes a bit of a management issue, but have to work with the mess.

Also not forgetting the so called FSCS 35K protection stepping in “if they are also to be trusted” that is.

Seems there is no longer any safe place to put your money!!

There is - under your bed. That's where I've got mine stashed anyway.

Was very very silly in my young age, took a gamble with the advice of multiple colleagues on penny shares, most went bust the others were worthless after the bust. This was real money - and no it wasn't something I could afford to lose.

To make things worse a few years later, I left work, outsourcing was always talked about. Got fed with it all & moved on. Guess what? After 3-4 months when I left all my friends (joined around the same time) got 40k. Another shamble but I wasn't to know.

Too much to place under the bed ;) But I know people who avoid banks so they must stash it somewhere like that....

Still... you could mitigate the risk with an alarm linked to the Police.
  • Since the Government is 'overseeing' the 'smooth' LTSB buyout of Halifax, your HBOS money [STRIKE]is[/STRIKE] was very, very, safe IMHO.

I'm quite happy to have in excess of the £35K threshold with HBOS under the above situation (wouldn't be ecstatic with £1/2m, but happy with £35K+).

Queues of people standing outside Halifax branches tomorrow morning is not something I'm looking forward to seeing.

There's a lot of "pennies" in £50K!

I would say that the odds of losing your cash under the bed is at least 1000 times greater than any chance of you losing out due to a UK bank going bust!
