Skype for a technotwit

Hi,

I'm sorry for asking such a basic question,but my daughter is off to Uni saturday (thankfully she is a lot brighter than her mum!) and her Uni have said skype is available in her room. Am I right in thinking that not every laptop/pc could use this fascility ? And do you use a special phone or headphones with skype?

Skype is available on more or less every computer and laptop yes, its just some computers are too old etc.

Um it uses internet so I would assume the univeristy is saying they won't block anyone using it.

You can use headfones with microphone, you can buy USB Skype phones, all work.

It costs if you call to a landline number though so it really just has to be computer --> computer.

You just need a microphone on your computer to make voice calls with Skype. You don't need headphones.

If you want to make video calls, you'll need a webcam.

Thanks for that-I just assumed you would need special programmes and things,have left it all abit late as she goes on Saturday!

Go here to download Skype... http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/ You will need to install it on your pc and your daughter needs to do the same.
I don't use a microphone or anything like that, typing is good enough for me
