Social Tariff?

Options
I saw something on a programme last week,i just caught the end of it and wonder if anyone knows about the social tariff? I have emailed my supplier british gas but they havent replied. i believe it is a not very widely advertised tariff for people on low income, etc.

Thanks for any advice.
Received £250.00 with one phone call to reclaim Mortgage Exit Administration£ fees AND £2995.00 bank charges from Lloyds TSb..All thanks to Martin Lewis. :T :money::T:beer:

  • I have read some of the posts re the above and if anything im more confused than ever, and havent much confidance in phoning the call centre as it appears the staff arent always completley savvy in all areas.
What would be the best way of finding the true best tariff for me?

  • hi karenn1957, i was the same when looking for my parents,
as they are with british gas, i got them on the special tariff for there gas,
and switched over to southern electric for there electric as you receive up to 20% discount, link below,
    http://www.southern-electric.co.uk/Help/ForYourHome/SpecialPackages/Default.aspx
hope this helps, at the end of the day any discount helps, some providers offered nothing

    Thanks for that info.
In the end i went for the click 5 tariff, the girl went through the options and this seems the best way for me at the moment. It involves the customer being responsible for giving their own meter readings via internet.
    Thanks again

This is a "special tariff for those most in need and offers savings to our standard prices. Access to the Tariff is subject to set eligibility criteria which are an annual gross household income below £13,500 AND someone in the household is: 60 or over, disabled, chronically sick, or a child under 16."

just thought this might be of use to some :)

Most energy suppliers provide social tariffs, the may have different criteria though. Whilst they may be cheaper than standard tariff they may not be the cheapest tariffs though

Ps this thread is old no reason to bump it up really
