Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

It'll have to be agreed by HBOS shareholders hence the very large premium over the market price as they don't want someone else stepping in with a counterbid.

I imagine many shareholders will be happy with anything above the zero their shares will otherwise fall to.

My main bank accounts are with Halifax - always been shoody since they merged with Bank of Scotland IMO so god knows what it will be like now the likes of LloydsTSB are involved.

Im moving all my accounts to the Nationwide.

We've been with Lloyds for about 40 years and they've been as good as one can expect from any bank. I've never been tempted to move.

If this is the final deal, have to say I'm very pleased. Family members and us have money in HBOS.
