Cheapest (but quality) tinned / canned tuna

I am currently obsessing about the price of tinned tuna; either steak or chunks, good quality.

Tesco's have 4 pack Princes on half price the other day (£2.50 for 4 I think)

Aldi tuna steak was 75p last time I went in.

Please let me know your best quality buy tinned tuna.

  • tesco value tuna chunks 35p, i cant tell the difference between this and john west. just make sure you dont pick up the flakes by accident (29p) as they are in an almost identical tin.
  • tesco value tuna chunks 35p,

Sainsburies are the same price, the only difference is 6g less drained weight, 129g as opposed to 135g however that's not too much of a concern as there is still 20g+ protein which is what I am after. Tastes good as well.

Check out sardines for 35p as well at Tesco/Sainsburies/Waitrose as they are an oily fish.
    Buy for value not cost.
    Feb Grocery = £55.87 / 80

Flakes are not very impressive that is for sure.

agree the tesco one are fine

however the cheapest sainsburys ones are very similar to what one would define as cat food !!!
  • Thanks for this. I was wondering as well the best place for this. I stocked up when Morrisons were doing the Princess 4 pack deal for £2 but that will only last me until end of November if I am lucky. Tesco chunks it is!
  • They did a poll in Men health this month and Tesco's own brand come out on top for price value, protein, and less fat. Just make sure its in sunflower oil rather than brine, too cut back on the salt intake

Doesn't the sunflower oil taste too greasy? It is nearly twice as many calories than the brine one which I have always used. I have virtually no other salt in my diet apart from the tuna but am interested if the sunflower one tastes OK.
