Wondered if anyone can help
Had a quote from MFI for an 8 unit Space Cream kitchen + hob + extractor for about £2500
Going to get a quotes from Wickes and Howdens, wondered what sort of price they would/should come in at for a similar kitchen size and quality??
I read elsewhere that Howdens ranges are similar to MFI ranges, but at trade price. Does this mean the quote from Howden will be significantly lower??
Which do people think is better quality out of the 3??
Finally, how much should I be looking to pay for someone to install the kitchen, as well as doing flooring and retiling??
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

Have a look at Nationalkitchens.co.uk, better quality that all those three.0

Quality is all relative Trev.
You can only compare quotes on the exact same units and appliances etc. MFI are ok as are Wickes kitchens, who also share some of the same ranges as Gower and Focus. (handy for a direct comparison)
I like Howdens stuff, they are the suppliers I use.
Quite often its the fitting/labour charges where you'll find the best bargain.
I'm guessing the quote is for materials only?In wood we trust.0 -
Thanks
Yes, just for the units, sink, tap, appliances. they would charge another £1300 or so for the fitting of the units, and more for any tiling, painting, flooring etc
Getting a quote from Wickes monday, and Howdens( via a tradesman) on Tuesday, for what looks like the same or very simialr units, Atlanta from Wickes and Calgary from Howdens, both white high gloss shaker style units0 -

You're not in the north east are you? I could knock at least £800 off that price without even seeing it!In wood we trust.0 -
read the following link about Mfi before you purchase.

I think Howdens used to be affiliated with MFI but that might not ne the case anymore.
Howdens most direct competitors are Magnet Trade, Jewsons, and local indipendents, go through your tradesman and get a Magnet Trade quote. Very similar product but Magnet give a 15 year gaurentee wherein Howdens only give 5.That mrs macchicken to you!0 -
mfi may be a bit cheaper than howdens as they are flat pack and howdens are factory assembled. howdens kitchens are of a better quality and are kept in stock. my boss used to work for magnets and said they are not that good. if you take a quote to howdens they will at least equal the price and you will have a better quality kitchen.0

I would have to disagree with poster 2. I'd rather have thicker carcases which will be more sturdy and last longer - Howdens do them. Any quote you get, take into Howdens (assuming you're an account holder as they supply to trade only, or go in with your kitchen fitter) and they should beat it.
I used to work there and we always beat other quotes, and having a bit of inside knowledge, I know how they work.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0 -
Also with Howdens, they'll come out a do a design for you too. Appliances will be cheaper if included with the kitchen too.
My brother-in-law (down South here) charges £20ph labour for kitchen fitting.
The quote for appliances can vary tremendously, depending if you oak fronts, or Howdens own etc.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0 -
Just don't buy you sink taps worktops/appliances from any of these and you will save money.0
